I have no formal finishing room, and that’s becoming a problem as I try fussier finish techniques and coloring.
The woodshop has adequate light but is full of dust.
I do have a utlity room that I can use, but the lighting is dismal. I just drove myself crazy trying to stain and glaze a poplar table in the dark.
What kind of lights/lamps might I bring into the utility room when finishing to provide adequate and proper lighting?

A photographer buddy of mine recommended 5000K (daylight) fluorescent bulbs for the truest color rendition. Unless you have tons of north light. Even the big boxes have them, but they're a bit pricier than the $1.68 "Shop light bulbs"
I like the "daylight" bulbs also, am slowly converting all the fixtures in my shop (don't get the fixtures that take either old or new bulbs, get the ones that take only the new bulbs -- sorry I can't remember the number). If your utiility room has a low ceiling, that may prove a problem. Most of the ceiling in my shop is just under 8' and I find the fluorescent fixtures a bit distracting. There may be a way to filter-screen them so the light isn't so much "in your face", it just hasn't been a priority here yet.
gaf,
I've got a professional spray room which has large fluorescents everywhere. Lots. The upper portions of the walls are lined with them so you get no shadows no matter where you work. HOWEVER, when it comes to matching colors there is no substitute for daylight. If we have to match a stain (rather unusual actually) we take it outside to check.
