The Lie-Nielson Hand Tool just came to town the last two days with a couple other very nice vendors in tow. I went yesterday and spent 3 1/2 hours trying out allot of very nice planes and had a great time and recommend to all to go get your hands on some great tools. The staff from Lie-Nielson was very well informed and most capable in showing everyone how to use the different tools and we were allowed unlimited time to use all the tools we wanted to try out on the plain to very figured wood they had there to cut and plane. If your close to a show–GO !!!

I went to the one in Cincy a few weeks ago. It was held at Pop Wood's headquarters. I picked up a nice Glenn Drake marking gauge while there which I just got today (very nice gauge). The atmosphere at the event was like a mini Woodworking in America Conference that was held in Berea, KY last year. It's a definite must-do if your in the area where it's being held.
mvflaim,I was fascinated by the marketing literature that came with the Tite-mark. It was different and inspiring as I recall.
Yes, it's a sweet little marking gauge. They have a newer one out this year that's even nicer as you can install double blades on the end to lay out both sides of the mortise at once. I really wanted that one but I couldn't afford it since I'm unemployed right now.
I used the gauge last night and it gives a real crisp straight line that's easy to adjust with one hand. You can see that a lot of engineering went into designing the tool as works with ease.

mvflaim,It's nice having a quality tool in your hands. In the vast majority of cases, I don't bother laying out the second line anymore with a mortise....I let the chisel or router bit determine...(I know I'm lazy) good luck with the job
good luck with the job
Thanks. I'm trying to stay in sales in the building industry but there are very few jobs out there right now. Nevertheless, I'll get something soon.
I also attended the recent one in Cincy. The best part was being able to meet the people behind the tools. I tried out a Ron Brese shooting plane and got to discuss the design with the man himself. After seeing these tools first hand, it was difficult to walk away.
Jameel Abraham was there with his wagon vise as well. I ended up ordering one at the show. Jameel spent time with me going over the design and how I could install the device on my bench. Very helpful.
Everyone was great at the show and very willing to spend time with me. Now they just need to get one in the Phoenix/Tucson area. :)
