Hello,
Does anyone know what the differences between the Leigh D4R dovetail jig and the D24 are? I’m guessing that the D24 is a discontinued model. I may have the opportunity to get a used D24 but i don’t want to be disappointed.
Thanks!

I bought a D24 on craigslist. It can do anything a D4R can do. I bought an upgrade kit from Leigh to convert it from a D24 to a D4R. I think that cost about $100 or so.
Ron - thanks for the info!

You will never be disappointed with a Leigh jig of any type.. IF YOU USE IT! Well made and like any tool, it takes some time to use it well!
Well, I did purchase the used jig. Turns out it's a D4 and the dovetail template was never used! The bits still had the wax on them. It also had the F2 finger joint template and the VRS Guidebush kit, as well as a couple of never-used Porter-Cable bushings. The F2 template alone sells for $259 at Woodcraft so I thought that $300 for the whole package was a great price that I could not pass up. After making my first dovetail joint, I wondered why so many folks say that the jig is very hard to use. Yes, you have to take the time and go through the manual. But the manual is excellent and the 1st try was great. The next time it won't take nearly as long. Very cool!
Please don't take this as another "jig vs hand-cut dovetails" thread!! I am learning to hand-cut dovetails but when there are a lot do to, I'll be using the jig. Maybe someday I'll be as fast as Frank Klaus but not in this lifetime:)
