Mr. Conover,
I have a Delta model 46-700 12″ lathe and would like to extend the bed. I am considering using boards and a support stand at one end and attaching/butting the other end to the existing bed. the wood and stand would be similar to your “Conover Lathe” concept. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Joining the two together will be problematic. It has to be a very sturdy joint for the idea to work. You would probably be better to just mount the headstock and tailstock temporarily on a wood bed. People have also done this successfully by simply welding together a bed of angle or channel structural steel. This can be done cheaply and it is usually easier to attach the existing parts to the metal frame which is the difficult part of using wood.
With best regards,

Mr. C ,Thanks for the good advise Ill pursue the concept
