Any ideas of how to make concave and convex mouldings in 2 1/2 stock without without a spindle moulder?

With a router mounted in a table (which is just a proxy for the shaper) or with a set of hollows and rounds - handplanes if you're not familiar with the term. A Stanley 45 or 55 will also work. All methods and tools have their limitations and the ones I've mentioned are no exception.

Do the concave part on the table saw but running the wood on a diagonal through the blade. I believe there is an article in FWW on this.
I roughout large moldings on the table saw, by making a series of closely spaced kerfs, adjusting the depth to conform to the desired profile. A little cleanup with hollow and round molding planes, or a goose neck scraper will produce a nice molding. While this is an easy task, it isn’t for a large run of molding, as it is quite slow. I have attached a photo showing some moldings for a tall case clock I made. In this photo you can see the kerfs that I cut on the table saw, and you can see where I will use a shaper to make the thumbnail profile on one edge of the molding, to the right.
