I bit the bullet – again.
Now that I have a jointer/planer combo with 12″ capacity on both components, I’m in the same bind of having to slice wide boards to accommodate the 7 1/2′ cutting limit of the bandsaw. Asking my son if he would be interested in my Laguna 14″ saw, he replied, “I’d like that.” Now I had a valid reason to purchase a new 16″ saw. (It helps to have a “reason” to buy new tools.)
I contacted Laguna yesterday;, was put in touch with “Kevin”. I asked him, “Why should I buy a Laguna?”
Vary calmly, low key, he proceeded to list what he felt were advantages in the Laguna saws. Never once did he talk down the competition – just explained why their features were good.
I asked what he could do for an order “today”. I got the freight knocked off; about $250.
All in all it was a very satisfactory experience. As to Product Support, I don’t know yet. I’ve had the 14″ saw for about 5 years and have never had any troubles. I post this to balance the experiences of others who feel Laguna is difficult to deal with. Not so – in either of my two purchases.

It's beginning to look like the tide has turned at Laguna and they are understanding the true meaning of good customer service. Hope this good news continues. Keep us posted how things go!
Like many in this forum, I appreciate using quality tools and have many that I would quickly buy again if they were missing. At the very top of the list is my ten year old Laguna 18” bandsaw. <!----><!----><!---->
I primarily use it for resawing, having a 14” Jet setup for curved work, but it is great to know that I can quickly set the fence and make a clean accurate cut without any fuss. <!----><!---->
I don’t have to set it to a thicker cut so that I have room to remove the deviations. Take it off the saw give it a quick sanding and I am ready to go. Love it!<!----><!---->
In the next few years I plan a major upgrade of my shop in New England. When I do, Laguna will be one of the first companies that I talk to.<!----><!---->
My twelve-year-old Laguna 16 has been more than satisfactory although it took me a few applications to learn to use it well. Is yours an Italian machine? The metric fasteners on mine are the biggest issue. No problems in the service or accessory support department.
Italian? No. Would you believe Bulgaria. The fit and finish is excellent. This refers to the 14" saw that I am giving to my son. I'll post the source of the LT16 - 3000 when I receive it.Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." FDR - 1922
I have and HD-16 w/ 4.5 hp motor.Could not be happier.I also purchased a drift master fence. There were some problems with the finish on the fence. I documented them with pictures and they sent me a new fence, which was perfect.
I've ordered the Driftmaster fence with my new saw. It looks pretty cool. What is that "thing" inserted into the miter slot in the picture?Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." FDR - 1922
Frosty,That is the space holder for the blade slot. Also I will get my album up for the Driftmaster install and send you a link. The instructions are not great, but if you think about it some, it is not too difficult. You will need a 18mm wrench... ( I think ). I found it was not included in some wrench sets. I may be wrong on the size, but had to check around to get the size I needed. I also think it was very handy to have a socket with the same size. Good luck.
Thanks. I would appreciate the link. As to the wrench, I can always go to my "Universal Metric Wrench' - commonly called a Crescent wrench. Oh well. Some people enjoy my humor.Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." FDR - 1922
