I built a faced framed kitchen cabinet under the desk area. I am about to build the rail and stile doors. The existing kitchen cabinet doors are hung on partial wrap 1/4 ” overlay hinges. Tops, bottoms, and non-hinge side of all doors are 1/4 ” overlay. I couldn’t locate 1/4 ” overlay hinges so I bought 1/2″ overlay hinges to match the style and finsh of the existing hinges.
Question # 1: Will the 1/2″ overlay hinge be noticeable?
Question #2: Using the 1/2″ overlay hinge should the top, bottom, and non-hinge overlays also be 1/2″ or should they be 1/4″ so that the rail and stile reveals would be similar to the existing cabinet doors’ reveals?
Thank You

Perhaps the most important determinant is what you find pleasant looking.
Determining Pleasant Looking
How will I know what's pleasant looking without being able to actually see different options? I suppose I could make some poster board or cardboard doors in different sizes. I was just trying to get an idea of whether door dimensions or reveals around the doors was more important visually. I have seen articles that discuss sizing relationship 'rules' but don't recall any that discuss my question.

Are you going to use the Blum 1/2 over lay type? if so use the the blum mounting plate as well for the face frame mount hinges. You will be very happy with the 1/2 over lay blum hinges. It should have the 25 MM cup hole just make sure that the outside edge detail is not very deep on the outside edge as when you drill the hole in the door for the hinge it may come through the face of the door. Also, the hinges are very easy to install.

The hinges in all the other cabinets are manufactured by Amerock. I was going to use Amerock for the new doors to keep the hinge look the same. They are overlay wrap type hinges.

I would try and find the stlye you have they are still available and should be I think ether 3/8" or 1/4" . Nope I just went out to the shop and its a 3/8" hinge for a 3/8" rabbit on the door 3/8" x 3/8" on the back side of the door. I have never seen a 1/2" are you sure?

I am sure about the Amerock overlay being 1/2 ". I bought them at a local lumber yard/hardware store. The employee also gave me the Amerock catalog and it only had the 1/2" overlay hinge. I also have an older Amerock catalog which has overlays of other than 1/2". I'm not certain but it appears that the Amerock company/brand may have been sold and the product line changed. I also need the pulls for the cabinets and I can't even come close to matching the style of the pulls. Kind of a pain trying to match older products/models. I had the same situation with the windows on my house....company went out of business for a few years and when they started up again they changed their designs....I wound up having to fabricate my own parts to match the originals.
