Have a General International 8″ jointer for 1 year. Worked fine for 6 months; then started having trouble with infeed/outfeed tables. (came with no set screws!). I adjusted the outfeed table to zero ( blade height) then was sure infeed table was ‘true’ and tight BUT…. wood is coming out tapered at the butt end. I know how to hold down the wood on the outfeed table….what else could it be?!

How many passes are you making? I doesn't matter how good you are, multiple passes will result in tapering. What is it that you are doing? Many of us set the outfeed just a tad lower than the blades, using the block or rule method. You can get a pretty good reading on the jointers set up by cutting in a ways on a straight board. The cut should ride flush on the outfeed, if it starts to lift, you are out of adjustment.
Thanks for the reply. I do believe I have done what's suggested...could it be that the actual 2 tables are not parallel? Meaning the infeed has a slight angle away from blades?(down). I have called tech support and on a number of occasions and every time "he is away on vacation" is the reply. I will continue to tweak it and make some more saw dust. I like your quote.... I've been called mallet-man a few times.
Sounds exactly like your outfeed table is a few thousandths above the cutting circle. As the blades dull the tip goes below the outfeed table height. Drop the outfeed table down until you have snipe then slowly raise it until it goes away. Here's where it get tough...most folks end up goung a tad high again and start blaming the tables being off. Keep dropping the outfeed table until you get the procedure right. 99% of the time that's the problem.
Many Thanks, I'm off to the barn workshop to try out your suggestions. The shop is wood heated and the weather in March New England tests one's metal....attached photo of the barn commute.
I'm wondering if your tables are tight and fixed. Maybe they're settling/moving after you set up.
