I have a 6″ delta jointer, and the 1hp Delta Dust Collector. The DC keeps up fine with my 13″ Planer, which produces much more chips than the jointer, but shavings go everywhere when using the jointer. Mostly, the shavings come out from where the knives are (on the top) and end up covering th in-feed table (argh! a real pain – if I don’t continuously blow off the shavings, they act like a shim and mess up the trueness of the cut!) Anyone else have this experience, or know what I may be doing wrong here?

How deep of a cut are you trying to take?
Is it one of those portable, horizontal bag collectors?
I don't have my jointer hooked up to a DC. I found out quickly that I can't take off more than 1/32" at a time or else it clogs and spits at me. That's fine with me for now cause I don't get to play in my imaginary shop very often. I haven't run much over those knives except for doug fir. But I imagine softwood shavings would clog the machine a lot quicker than hardwood.
Hey Matt, sounds like the stunt my Jet 6" pulls when the chips bridge up right under the cutter head. I'm sure you've checked that, but it sure seems like any dust collecter would work on a jointer. I use a shop vac for mine usually, with decent results. Take care,
Steve
