I am interested in the combination tool with Jointer and Planer. I saw the Fine Woodworking article reviewing the foreign made combo tools about 1 1/2 years ago. Since then Laguna, Grizzly and Jet that I know of have similar combo tools. Does anyone have experience with any one of these or do you know where a review of these tools might be?

Any idea if they are going to offer a slot mortiser attachment for it? I should have never sold my old Robland Jointer/planner/mortiser. I miss that machine a lot…<!----><!----><!---->
I do not know of any plans for attachments. I expect this would be a good question for JET to find out future plans they may have for their equipment.Tom Hintz

Hi
I have a Planer /Thicknesser, The make is Tendo, made in belguim, I have had it for 3 years, it is a heavy piece of kit , I only ever buy rough sawn timber now, it has 3 blades and will plane up to 10 inches and thickness up to 6 inches, it was brand new when I bought it cost me £625 and had a slot morticer attachment adjustabe tables for vertical and lateral movement, I tried to use on a couple of occasions but found that my Record morticer was easier to use.
Personally I am delighted with the machine it does all I ask of it and would recommend it, the blades have plenty of meat on them are very easy to resharpen on my tormek

Mini Max is about the best available. But be sure to get the Tersa cutter head, it makes life a breeze with knife changes.
thank you for the review. Very well done and what I had hoped the Jet was. I have looked at it but I am far from being an expert.
Kent,
I Europe there are many such machines. Here is a link to a sample, which covers the normal quality and price range (although there are a lot more machines than these on the market).

Those manufactured in Germany, Austria, Italy, even Britain and other European nations with a long history of engineering tend to be best. Those made and imported from the Far East then rebranded are still of variable quality (not all bad, by any means; but tend to be made down to a price).
I would recommend Scheppach from long personal experience. I have not only their planer/thicknesser but also their mid-range TS and large bandsaw. They work extremely well, day in day out. Here is a site that sells them in Britain.

They do a planer/thicknesser that has a power take off, along with add-ons to provide a mortise/tenoner and/or a spindle molder. I can't find a US importer though (doesn't mean there isn't one).

I purchased the MiniMax FS30 combo unit last spring. My "review" is at post #36974.1.
Since that time I have used the slot mortiser attachment several times. If you want info on that let me know. I don't know how I would have accomplished the task w/o it.

I have the JET (European) machine and it's beatiful. Powerful and accurate.. YOu can change between jointing/planing in about 15-20 sec.
