To all: I’m making a small end table with square, tappered legs. It will be out of cherry. I want to attach a very dark wood to the bottom 3″ of each leg. My question is how to secure this dark wood, like ebony. I suppose I could veneer the dark wood onto the cherry but this seems fragile. A solid piece of ebony would be better. How to attach. Best way with a dowel? Help!

Hi,
My preferred method is to cut very clean ends on my legs and end caps. Then I drill for two dowels into each. Two dowels will prevent any potential for twisting if the end grain joint gives way. You could also use a loose tenon if you have enough room. Or if space is really tight, run one dowel and add a couple of blind pins or nails to prevent twist. Good luck. Gary
Gary : Many thanks for your help.
