Hello,
I’ve been hanging doors long enough that I’ve come to know my chiropractor very well. I’m interested in talking to other people who do entries, doors, and install full mortise locks as part & parcel of what they do, also.
In particular, I am looking for input in redesigning/building a door-hanger’s table. I’ve made a couple prototypes and have learned a couple things via wisdom for the pain.
The table I’ve used is about 6 ft. long and 28.5″ wide (allows you to get it in and around a house you are working in), and it has a tray on the right and left to hold door plane, routers, lock jigs, and a power strip along the back for tools to get innervated, of course. The center of the table is a rectangle that you can jump in and pick the whole business up and move to access your next task at hand.
I made a gizmo on the front that held the door in a vertical position so you could mortise hinges, plane bevels, and the top has padding so you can lay door flat and hopefully cut the bottom and not the top off the door to fit (I’ve done that when I was a young sprite). I have a trough for the template to hang in and stay proud from bruises and nicks.
Additionally, I’ve found a skateboard a wonderful way to run doors in and out of the house or facility I’m hanging doors in, and when you hear the snack truck’s whistle, you can use it to be the first one there for coffee and flirt with the driver.
If anybody knows of a book or has a diagram of one that they’ve seen used in the trade, I’d be delighted to take a look and chat with you. I know this isn’t an original idea, seen other guys use them, but I’m interested in making the next one I build more bettah.

Sorry to see that your post did not get one response.
I wonder if you tried posting it over at Breaktime.
Fine Homebuilding put out a book on doors a few years back. It was a compilation of articles from FHB on doors, door hanging, etc. The door bench you described sounds exactly like the one on the front cover of the book.
I don't do doors that often that require that much work. At most, a simple door buck is all I use. I'm sure you have seen plenty of those.
