Jet JWBS 18 inch Blade Guide Adjustments
Does anyone know of an expedient way to adjust the lower blade guides on the Jet 18 inch bandsaw? I’m working with one of the first generation models. Maybe Jet has addressed this problem, or maybe I’m too stupid to figure it out, but I cannot do it without taking the table off, and what a pain just to change a blade. How about those tiny little thumbscrews and loosening two Allen wrenches filled to their brims with sawdust to make the adjustments, what’s up with that? Maybe, higher quality machines have spoiled me, but it’s just goofy.
Are there any aftermarket parts that solve this problem? <!—-> <!—-><!—->

They are a bit of a pain to adjust. I finally figured out a way to adjust them with out removing the table but I doubt I could describe it adequately. I remember reading somewhere about an individual who modified a set of Allen wrenches to make them easier to use (I think he welded extensions but I could be wrong). Perhaps you could look into getting a larger or different set of Allen wrenches.
Carter makes a set of replacement guides for this saw with a different lower assembly. http://www.carterproducts.com/product_list.asp?cat_id=6
I don't know if it is any better to adjust. I don't change my blades often enough for me to bother investigating them further. If you find something that works keep us posted.

Thank you, for your reply. I will research it a bit. Maybe I'll give Jet a call. I thought about one of those long Allen wrenches with the rounded tip. I also thought about replacing the Allen screws with regular hex-head bolts. That way, I think you could reach them from under the back of the table. I'll let you know what I come up with. Thanks again,
Craig
Hi crsiti:
I've been looking for a new band saw and did quite a bit of research on the Jet. You are not alone having problems with the guides. Jet received so many complaints that they have modified the lower guides by adding a long handle that can be reached. If you check with Jet I'm sure you can retrofit the new guides. hope this helps
Be safe

Thanks for the info, Dennis. I just read your post and I will contact Jet this week.
