Jet 22/44 “Benchtop” Drum Sander
Jet/Performax has a 22/44 PLUS in 3 configurations: Closed stand, Open Stand, and Bench-top model.
I looked at the closed model and discovered the casters do not swivel, and the caster lock seems lightweight and flimsy.
Almost every open stand for most machinery seems under designed, built from thin steel, bent for strength. But they don;t feel solid to me.
Has anyone purchased the benchtop model and build their own stand?

I purchased the stand but got my own casters from a big box store and saved quite a bit there. You do not mention the infeed and outfeed tables which I find well made for my purposes.
Yes, I did. Built a plywood cabinet underneath which holds the big boxes of ready to cut sandpaper and other sanding supplies, with four heavy-duty locking swivel casters. Cheaper than buying the stand and more useful, as well. If you go this route I recommend putting in a full center support divider as the sander is 200+ pounds and the cabinet would be fairly wide - can't remember offhand, but north of 24".
Hope that helps.

I bought the benchtop (no stand) Performax 22/44 model several years ago. I also purchased the Rockler multi-function shop stand pieces with their swivel casters. I put a 3/4" MDF top on it and bolted it all together. I was able to get the right size parts to fit the base nicely.

I couldn't be more happy with it. It's rock solid holding up that beast. I move this thing around a lot in my shop so it's passed all the tests I can throw at it.

I bought my 22/44 with the open base and it works great, not flimsy at all. I also went to the big box store and bought locking casters for about $3 each instead of the $16 Woodcraft wanted and they work fine. I didn’t relies you could get one with out a stand. Making a cabinet for it would make since, just to have a nice place to keep the sanding supplies.
