Dude
I would guess that the carving comes from China, India or Thailand. The ivory is surely dry, so my suggestion is not to do anything. You may snap the carving. I would make a lovely wooden stand that keeps the carving raised and in this way takes the attention away from the curve.
If you feel reckless, try rolling a moist towel around the carving and keep it this way in a plastic bag for a few hours. Remove from the plastic bag and place the carving on a humid surface and apply light weight to both ends in an attempt to coax it straighter. It will never become perfectly straight, so why risk breaking it? I return to the first suggestion I made. JL
Dude, I second what JeanLou has said. The thing about ivory is that it behaves just like wood: it reacts to changes in prevailing humidity levels. In fact it is quite unstable-I speak of Elephant ivory.
Er, if it is "mammoth or mastadon" I too hope they were quite dead at the time...extinct in fact.
thanks jl and others the carving is from india i was told obviously a smaller mastadon judging the carving size lol
