Just tried the “Carpenter” app from Apple on the Itouch (hers) and was enthusiastic. $1.99
Bubble level, protractor,Plumb Bob,Surface level, endless ruler in inches and centimeters. Calibration and hold abilities.
Interesting and very accurate if you can just get it calibrated – and in a measuring position. Hard to do with a slippery little silver thing that spins on it’s back. For a general purpose thingy around the house or office maybe……
but I think Ill leave it on hers.

Some apps that are just waiting to written for iTouch and iPhone:
iPlumber: You key in some info and it recommends you replace all of your galvanized steel and copper pipes with PEX. If you do not, it estimates when you will have your next big water leak (when you go on vacation) and gives you a spreadsheet comparison of the difference in cost between fixing all of your subsequent water damage and just starting an easy monthly payment plan now to replace all of your plumbing with modern, earth-friendly materials.
iLandscaper: You key in your current landscaping information and it gives you the options and price list for an upgrading your landscaping with a plan that "should be much easier to maintain in the long run." Includes a new photoelectric activated sprinkler system even if you live in the South or Pacific Northwest.
iTermite Inspector: It will come out and inspect your home and property if you insist, but without inspecting, it can tell you that there is quite a lot of termite activity in your area, and it is almost certain that there are termites on your property. It presents you with a cost analysis for termite prevention plans and options which will cover you and keep you safe from now until infinity as long as you keep paying.
Go to it, you software developers! We're just getting started with what is possible with this new technology!
BB: You should post this over at Breaktime - they might get a kick out of it.
