During a sale at Rockler’s I picked up eight Irwin Parallel jaw clamps. I was at the time assembling numerous dovetail drawers and thought the clamps would be a great improvement over pipe clamps. Although the new clamps were somewhat helpful, I found that the jaws are definitely not parallel as pressure is applied, they actually ended up contacting the wood only at the tip of the adjustable jaw. The clamping pressure obtainable with the clamps also left a lot to be desired – I found I needed to use my pipe clamps to pull the sides together, and then I could use the Irwin clamps with their longer jaws to hold the pieces in place. Has anybody had similar experiences with the other brands of parallel jaw clamps such as Bessey, Jorgensen, and Jet?

I have Bessey and Jet parallel clamps, and Jorgenson I-beam clamps. Have had no problems with Bessey and Jet -- and both tested out well in FWW a year or so ago. The Jorgenson I-beams are immensely stronger then the Bessey or Jet, but are not parallel at all, or even close. Of course, they don't claim to be.
