I’m having trouble figuring out what I’m looking at. This came from a large tree that was destroyed in the recent storm. The owner told me “there were two different kinds of leaves on the tree, as if two trees had grown together.”
I’m going to try and attach some photos.

The pictures are of little use for identification, several very clear close up pictures of a freshly planed surface and also a photo of a cleanly cut end grain are needed for that. From what I can see the wood looks like it may be rotted, in which case ID will be nearly impossible.
Also some information about where it was growing would be useful, the trees that grow in Maine aren't the same as what would grow in Florida for instance.
Was this a tree that grows commonly in that your area or was it possibly something exotic from a nursery?
Only a few trees have the dual leaves, you might ask at a local nursery, extension service, or tree service, they may know from the description what the tree species was.
