Hello Everyone,
First of all I would like to sincerely thank all of those who contributed their opinion to this very important purchase for me, including those who’s advise I did not take. After reading all the messages and carefully considering both machines I went with the left tilt X5 unisaw with the 50″ fence and extension table. I chose this saw for a couple different reasons. Generally speaking everyone felt that the unisaw was a fine machine and the added savings allowed me to buy an excelent reconditioned stationary belt and disc sander I wanted. I have been building things in the wood shop since I was a child and woodworking and carpentry were the way I made my living for many years, but I was never able to buy the big, expensive tools. I always managed to get by with a ramshackle assortment of my grandfathers handtools and a few basic powertools I collected. My first tablesaw was probably one of the cheapest contractor saws you could buy (King Canada?), but it made me happy. Anyway, that’s a tangent that has nothing to do with this. My point is that I am very happy with my purchase and I thank all of you for your excelent advise. Keep makin shavins everybody.
P.S. I also snuck a Lie Nielsen #102 in for good measure with the extra cash. Just goes to show you can let a man loose in a tool store with money in his pocket. Toy stores for grown men.
Best Regards,
Brian

Brian,
Congratulations. But I have to correct you: its grown boys in a toy store.
Enjoy making dust.

Doug,
Thanks for the clarification, I think we're men until we get past the front door and then we start to smell machine oil and wood and I think you're right, we're boys all over again. My wife has often had to drag me out of the tool store but I skip the tantrum. They should almost call it tools-r-us.
Best Regards,
Brian
What an understated post! No exclamation points, no mention of gloating. Too funny. Congrats, Brian, sounds to me like the Unisaw is well deserved!

Congrats. I remember the excitement when I finally got my Unisaw. I still smile every time I turn it on.
There are several fine cabinet saws on the market, and the Unisaw is certainly one of them.
