Hi,
I have been using a brush to finish my projects, and have had several people tell me about HVLP. I have a PC 135 PSI, 4.5 HP, 15 Gal compressor. The lable also says that the compressor has 8.0 SCFM @ 40 PSI and 5.7 SCFM @ 90 PSI. I guess i have the usual questions.
1) Is it worth going to spray?
2) What equipment will work the best?
3) Should I go HVLP or LVLP?
4) turbine or not?
5) And of course, which is the best product on the market for a non-professional woodworker? I do 8-10 furniture projects for the wife each year of varying sizes ( the last was a desk ).
Assuming cost does not come into play, but size does, I sure would appreciate any advice.
Thanks,

Well I personally like the conversion guns(Uses compressed air from a compressor). You seem to have a big enough compressor so I recommend checking out http://www.homesteadfinishing.com that is Jef Jewitts site He sells a varity of guns to meet your needs as well as the finishes, stains and about everything you'd need and expert advice.
I also recommend http://www.compliantspraysystems .com They sell accuspray (which is what I got) it is a very good gun mine is a LVLP but they sell a variety of guns to meet your needs as well as fiinishes and stains ect by enduro
Couldn't agree more with lefty.
1) Is it worth going to spray?
Yes. Finish quality improves, and versatility does as well. You save time every time you use it over brushing if the project is of any substantial size.
2) What equipment will work the best?
Conversion guns can get set up like regular guns. Hooking it to a pressure pot via lines not only saves a little air, it makes the gun easier to move around. You can shoot upside down or sideways without spilling or clogging.
3) Should I go HVLP or LVLP?
Never used LVLP, can't comment.
4) turbine or not?
Good 3 or 4 stage turbines will shoot just about anything you want. If cost really isn't an issue, then why not. But you can get a conversion gun for about a third of what a turbine system will run you.
5) And of course, which is the best product on the market for a non-professional woodworker? I do 8-10 furniture projects for the wife each year of varying sizes ( the last was a desk ).
That one's up to you. Looking at Jeff J's http://www.homesteadfinishing.com can not only answer some of the features, a few days ago he was unloading a few conversion setups. There might be some left and save you a few bucks.
Thanks to you both. I have contacted Jeff, and hope to hear from him tomorrow. I guess we'll see how it goes. Thanks again.

I'd also like to start spraying my finishes. Is there any spray systems that will work with my 6 gallon pancake compressor?
