I don’t do a lot of spraying and have always wondered about this. I use a wagner conversion gun to spray shellac and the directions on the shellac flakes bag say to spray on several coats then wait an hour before continuing with the next rep. Can I let my gun sit there for an hour without the shellac starting to dry on the needle or other parts of the gun? john

Aloha,
Works with lacquer, in fact I'll leave my lacquer gun sitting around for some time if I've got a number of parts to spray. Since shellac, like lacquer, doesn't undergo a chemical change like polyurethane, give it a try. The worst that can happen is you have to soak the parts in alcohol to clean them up
I agree with Dan. I've let both Shellac and Lacquer sit in my conversion gravity guns without any real problems. I just get in the habit of checking the tip before I spray with it again. And of course I give the finish material a few swirls just to make sure it's all mixed up well before shooting more. The same goes for pressure pots too, which I also use to spray both Shellac and Lacquer. That all goes for material usage in the same day. I don't leave anything in my gravity guns overnight. In my pressure pot I will leave material in overnight. But I always take it out, flush the lines briefly with the appropriate solvent (alcohol with Shellac, lacquer thinner with Lacquer) and mechanically mix the finish thoroughly before putting it back in to use again.
