I have telemark skiis on the way from a company called ScottyBobs that are made in China using a wood core they call Hua Birch. I’ve looked hard and can’t find mechanical characteristics for it. Apparently and according to them it is an Asia White Birch. Anyone heard of this.
Thanks and Happy New Year….Al

I never have, but I looked it up in 'The Book of Wood Names" by Dr. Hans Meyer. This is an extremely thourough reference with over 30,000 names listed. Under Birch there was no entry or nothing close and under words Beginning with Hua there were multiple entries ie : Hu, Huachiplin, Huacux etc, but noting that would obviously relate to the birch family from Asia.

About Asian white birch - Also called bai hua, shira-kamba, betula platyphylla
Hua in Chinese means Birch (as in the tree) - so calling the wood Hua Birch is actually redundant.
I believe this is how it's written:

Thanks
The purchase experience has been too weird and I have gotten my money back.
They claim this Hua Birch has a higher modulus of elasticity than any wood used to make skiis. Hickory?
