HTC model for 1997-ish Unisaw???
With all the excellent input on my question about “which mobile base” for my Unisaw, I’ve settled on HTC. Problem is, none of their models is matching the dimensions of the saw! I’ve talked directly with HTC, and they’ve sent me a drawing of the model they thought would work, but the extension for the table leg support is too long.
If anyone out there has a 1997 or so Unisaw model with the 52″ fence, and the legs are inset from the end of the table a few inches, and you have an HTC base, would you mind letting me know which model HTC it is?? Like asking for a winning lottery ticket, I know, but stranger things have happened. Thanks!!!!
Specs: base is 20.5″ square; distance from the right edge of the base to the outside edge of the table leg is 61-3/4″ (60″ to the inside of the leg)

Why don't you go with the Delta product? That is what I have and am pleased with it.
Cheers,

Glad you like the Delta, Peter. I just think the HTC would be easier for me to use.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I have HTC on a number of machines and find them a bit of a pain the #### to engage and move around. For me anyway, the Delta has a superior mechanism. And it fits perfectly. And I am an old and somewhat rickitty man.Cheers

OK, it's two against one -- actually, three:one, I got an email from Paddydahat too. So, near as I can tell there's only one Unisaw base, right? With luck, maybe Woodcraft in Seattle has one in stock. Will call tomorrow.
I don't believe you're "rickety", Peter, LOL. But I get the point.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
FG,
Think twice about the HTC.
My brother has the Delta base for his Unisaw and swears by it. I've had too many problems with the HTC bases I own. I'll never get another.
Just my $.02
Lee
OK, Lee, I know you're weird about your parallel clamps <grin>, but I'll take your word for it on the mobile base thing. I'm weary of this HTC size dilemma, will check Seattle Woodcraft, and if they don't have a base in stock, will order it from somewhere.
Anyone dealt with Tools-Plus?? $159.88 is a pretty darned good price, and only $6.50 shipping.

FG, I have ordered from Tools Plus just once. The order confirmation and shipping details (UPS) was communicated promptly by E-mail. The transaction was painless. Just enter the order with credit card information and sit back and wait. Overall, a great experience.
Steve
Thanks, Steve, good to hear. They win the price war by a large margin, because to go to Woodcraft I have to add in nearly $20 in ferry costs, so there's about a $60 difference. Too high a price for instant gratification, LOL.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
FG, after I sent the previous E-mail, I realized that forgot to mention the shipping time here to Texas. They ship fromm Conn. so transit time to you may seem long. Also, John White recommended them in one of his posts a month or so ago.
Steve
Thanks, Steve. I suspect the shipping time from Conn to Seattle area is about 6 working days. I'll look around, see if there's anything closer, but the way my schedule's been, and as much of a mess the shop's in, that won't kill me. Plenty to do while I'm waiting.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Sorry to chime in late.. but I will agree with the guys that you would be much happier with the Delta base that is customized for the saw in this case. The HTC would be OK.. but a welded custom with smooth operation as the Delta is just a better option in this case IMO.
Back to work for the kid.. putting a new top on the work-bench as I have slap worn out the old one. Bought stock today.. cross-cut it.. ripped it and jointed all faces.. should be ready to glue-up to-night. With any luck, I should change the vises over latter tomorrow and roll on Saturday.
Probably before you get the mobile base delivered. Those young delivery boys are just slow.. :>)

J, been buying from Tools Plus over ten years. Always a great price, always a more than reasonable S&H and scary prompt. When the Milwaukee 3 1/2hp router came on the market no one had it less than the current street price--they had it at a deep discount sale price- I ordered it at lunch time from my office on 6 ave NYC on line and it was delivered to my desk at 10:50 am. the next day and that includes going to our mail room that serviced 80% of a 44 story building. Their price for the orig PC 394vk dual base router kit was so good I had them send one to my son in Nashville too. Their cust svc is right up there with LV and Highland wood working. Paddy
Thanks, Paddy, I'm feeling good about ordering from them. You guys have convinced me on the Delta. (Doesn't get much more convincing than Lee, you, Sarge and Peter!-- apologies if I left anyone out)forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Paddy, just at the last minute (before clicking "order" at Tools Plus) I decided to call about in-stock availability. Sure glad I did! Not in stock, they actually drop-ship it when it's available from Delta. Sheesh. She couldn't tell me if the drop-ship was an option "today." I left my email addy with her.
Tonight, though, I checked Amazon. They have it, at $150, so it is ordered. Won't get here until week after next, I fear, but at least it's ordered! Thanks for the help.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
