Just curios on traffic since the new site came up? Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like posting level is a good bit down since the cut over. I know there has been some growing pains getting the new up and going but how has it impacted numbers? I know this is my first goto site and the FOG is second so I hope it returns to normal. Maybe its just my imagination just because its different, but seems like posts are off.

Nothing is more eloquent than the silence following your post.
All due respect to Bones, I didn't respond because (a) it was Christmas week for pity sake and (b) it (the new thread) looked, smelled and felt like bait.
I'm not enjoying Knots as much as I used to, but until the silt settles and some IT changes get through the process, I don't want to spend too much energy being concerned about it.
I like the old free form index where I could scan everything an a few seconds....
This is 'Trim and Proper' but very Victorian as to accessing things.
Will,
I tend to agree. It seems to take forever to get anywhere and once I'm there, I'm not sure where I've been.
I seem to be in a place with a white rabbit and small doors and size adjusting pills and mad hatters.
Maybe it will settle out in a few months.
I do agree with FG in that lack of members has been due to the holidays but I also think some of the fun has gone away.
We'll see and hope for better.
BB
also think some of the fun has gone away.
NA! Just a bit of a challenge. Or maybe more like a Duel?
Like everything else these days.. They want a younger group that are use to this mayhem.. Ok, so I loved Bill Haley.. My parents thought it was mayhem...

Will,
Yeah Bill Haley - gotta watch out for those "Comets", especially with this Blue Moon.
Happy New Year

Was not bait FG just a question. Would be curious to see some comparisons after a burn in period i.e. 30-60 days etc. Personally, I've learned to move around and bugs will work themselves out over time. The new .vs. old debate was not part of the intended question.
Being part of that IT world and been through quite a few of these anytime you make a major change to a site, the test is in traffic numbers. I hope the intent was to drive traffic up and improve flow. I also hope FWW at least have metrics set up to measure the success. IT just seemed like posts were down to me. Have a good one!
I do a quick scan in the Gallery.. if something is new there I comment. Then I do a quick scan (quick is probably not an appropriate word anymore) of General Discussion and Power Tools to see if anything interest me there. Usually not so.. I log off.. grab a cup of coffee and go slop the pigs and and the remainder of the chores we retired folks do. ha.. ha...
Sarge,
Your path is one of wisdom, which I will endeavor to follow. I don't have any pigs, but there is the job jar..

I visit once a day, same as before, but spend much less time browsing through posts while here.
Bones,
I know for sure that I don't spend as much time here as I used to. As FG ststed it has lost a lot of the "fun". It takes way to much time to find the new postings. It also feels that a lot of the other regulars are no longer with us. It's basicly hard to figure out , or perhaps I just don't care for a lot of the changes from what we used to have. Lets just hope that the IT dept gets to bugs fixed ASAP.
I find that I'm spending a lot for time over at Lumberjocks. They say that LJ's uses the same program as FWW has just switched to. It sure feels different than LJ's. Check out the Coffee Break forum "things that should be filtered" it just seems that is kind of threads we used to have here at FWW.

Over the weekend I was asking myself the same question: somehow the level of new posts seems to be off. Perhaps it is the Holidays and the uncertainty of proper procedure in the new format.
On the positive side, the IT folks at Taunton are to commended for 'listening' to the Knotheads. When I compare what we got to what I saw when I made test visits to the Cooking and Breaktime forums, I know we came out the big winners. Thanks Gina and the Gang.
Otherwise the site feels cold and somehow impersonal. As Jamie said, it is not as much 'fun' anymore. I was encouraged to read the back-and-forth of old dusty and boilerbay on the economy. There was warmth, personality and friendship in that 'business' exchange.
I am still bugged about a few things - but have kept silent. I know they are working on it and hopefully, all will be well in a month or two.
Happy New Year to all
Taigert
Well, I just checked out the lumberjocks site, and was quite impressed. Thanks for the heads up. I just hope that this forum can turn this, well......whatever this presently is, into something very useful like that site.
Here's to hoping for the best!
Happy New Year,
Jeff
Sniff and Scurry, Hem and Haw, the hand writing on the walls, just a little bit of life changes has such an effect on us all.
My cheese has been moved so many times I gave up looking for it, but that’s okay, it was starting to stink anyway. :)
I’ve learned to go with the flow.
Don
Yet another pithy post from a 5 week member. Going with the flow is much easier when you don't know what you missed. This was a great community. Hopefully we can work through this and not just "go with the flow" down the toilet.
I now spend more time at Woodnet or SMC & Woodweb. This new format is terrible, I miss the old Knots. I'll stop here now & then but not a few times a day as I used to. I'm losing interest with this new Knots.
Taunton,
This is your forum and you can do what you want with it. Thank you for providing this service. Now please reload the old format software.
Thank you,
GRW
I've been trying to figure
I've been trying to figure out how to see what's new. I thought, "Okay, I'll click on 'what's new' and wipe out all the posts I never opened." That doesn't work. Interestingly enough, I went to the last page of the "what's new" link and found a huge number of posts that are 7 years and 44 weeks old. I think that was from a long ago forum format change because there are a lot of posts with that age. The last post on the last page was from Danford Jennings. I don't know if anyone else remembers him but the last time I had contact with him he was battling cancer and going through a divorce. I enjoyed the memories and hope Dano is still out there working but nearly eight years old is hardly new.
I feel like I am in limbo when I come here. What a shame it is. Will I leave? no... probably just fade away. To be honest I have been to the other sites and they are not like the old knots. Some how I have never had a problem navigating those sites ever, this place has become redundant. Call me a whiner call me what you may I call it a disappointment what has happened here. To have a free forum, has it come to this ? Promises of fixes for what was not broken, I would gladly pay for the old knots back.
Tom.
