We just cut down an 18″ oak that was just in the wrong place. I’ve turned a few bowl blanks from it and cut a bit more (laboriously) into boards by quartering with a chain saw and wedges, then slicing on the bandsaw. The boards are stickered in the barn.
I also have a two-way crotch with a 14″ base and two 11″ arms. The arms are cut off about at the crotch, the base is cut off about 2 feet below. I intend to cut it into some usable pieces with a chain saw and would appreciate advice on how to cut it. I’d like to maximize the crotch grain. So far I only know one step – sweat a lot!!

Cut it pith to pith to pith and slab it from there. Boxed hearts are no good so you'll be finding the line of the center of the crotch and removing the pith as well.
