This is a video I came across on You Tube.
If it’s true, It’s a horrifying table saw injury under stupifyingly unsafe conditions.
Warning! Very graphic.

I wish I hadn't watched that!
"There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."
-- Daniel Webster
I couldn't watch it any further than realizing what seemed to happen. I couldn't critically examine it to see if were a hoax.I apologize if it's IS a hoax. Maybe others can look at it more than once!Rich
Seems to be a suspicious lack of spurting fluids, I can't tell for sure and am not going to experiment to find out!"There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters."

I started to watch and then paused and couldn't. Just knowing what probably happened is a good reminder to be real careful when using all power equipment. One of my shop teachers was missing two fingers on one hand. He always would say you don't want this to be you and would hold up his hand.
IMHO it is a hoax. His thumb is curled back under his hand!
A bad day woodworking is better than a good day working -- yes, I'm retired!
It's definitely a hoax. He would be jumping as soon as the blade touched his thumb. Ain't no way you would just hold it there to complete the cut, nice and slow. At least he kept his hair safe with the glasses. Fingers don't spurt blood. There are a lot of improper things going on in that video besides the thumb cutting. How many can you find?
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
If you notice, his left hand never leaves the board. He set the wood down and never moved his hand. He was holding a fake thumb.
Hi All,This may be real, amputated stumps go into immediate shock and bleed, but not as much as you'd think.More importantly, what was his hand doing so close to an unguarded blade? If he slipped, it would have been a real accident and a nasty one. If this was a joke, it had potential to be a candidate for an honourable mention in the Darwin awards.Cheers, eddie
Anyone who thinks this isn't simply a weak attempt at humor needs to get out more.

Amen.
I'm sure a thread about the SawStop preventing this "accident" surely can't be far behind.

My thinking exactly, but I was afraid to mention it for fear of creating a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Mike et al,
Ouch! Being a conspiracy theorist at heart, perhaps this is a clever fake staged by Sawstop (or an affiliated dealer) in the interest of promoting sales?
Certainly makes the point that distractions have no place in the shop when using power tools or sharp blades.

In the motorcycle forums every once in a while we get a troll or two who are real anti-motorcycle types. They sign in with a m/c type name then present a gory accident that has been contrived. All a means to an end.
who are real anti-motorcycle types.. I am NOT.. BUT I never rode again after going through a plate glass store window..
I am still willing to hold onto a 65+ year old FOX that is driving the HOG!
That's why I make it a practice to not drive through plate glass windows.

Hell, I was just a kid on a Harley side shifter.. I went for threw the glass and not the prople on the sidewalk
!
Those side shifters were suicide machines.
Mike,The dead give away is the guy never measured anything. Nobody even builds a birdhouse without measurements.
I saw that a few months ago and knew it was a hoax when i watched his other videos about living with a missing thumb. The problem is that the missing thumb was on his other hand.
Hard to tell,,
I sat with a man's head in by lap.. Crushed by a tank backing up (which should have never happened my Army Artillery rules.. or any rules) Should have had a man out back of the tank.. No women in my Battery at the time so I did not post Man/Women..
He said he did not feel any pain but he said he knew he was going to die.. He did..
Not to that extreme, but I once had a carbon cutting rod (white hot) or there so go into my gut in the Service .. I never knew it happened until I smelled my Army wool shirt BURNING or whatever I had on! Yes I'm still alive! and never felt any pain! I just knew it happened!
