Sale! What sale? I hurried down to my big orange crate this morning ( Johnson City, NY) to get in on the PC sale, hoping to come back with some new PC stuff. There were no "Sale" signs posted so I asked the guy in the tool dept "I understand that HD is discontinuing PC tools. Are the PC tools on sale." "I ain't heerd nuttin' about a sale",he said."I ain't heerd nuttin' about HD not selling PC tools anymore". But I think the phase out is going on and he's not aware of it. They only had 3 PC routers, 2 of them were display models and they had one still in the box, the one that has the separate plunge baseplate included as a kit. They had a "sale " sign on a PC compressor, but that's all I saw on sale.
Then I went over to Lowes to take a look at the new Dewalt planer. That sure is an eye opener. looks beautiful. $ 500 bucks. I'm gonna get one soons I get a full week in.
I just got back from HD with a $100 dollar PC plunge router. The sales person there thought a new model must be comming out. No other PC tools were on sale. There was also a DeWalt 3/8" 18v drill for $100.
Where'bouts you at. Anywhere near upstate NY.Be not afraid of going slowly. Be afraid only of standing still. chinese proverb
Rats !!...I hit three HDs this morning..we have about 5 in the area. PC Router was on sale....but no $100 dollar price. Normal price was $219 on sale for $207...
Just for the Heck of it check with the store manager & see if he can check other stores for a price match of the $100.00..

Found a couple today for $159 clearance. I don't have a great ned for a plunge router, but should I pick one up for that price?
Bob : thats not too bad of a price if you need a extra router

I think so tooldoc. My only router now is a craftsman 1 1/2 hp that only takes 1/4" shanks. Its a pain to use, maybe if I buy the PC I'll use it alot more. I think I can justify the purchase that way. PC also has a rebate program going on in September. Spend $150 on PC tools and get a $25 cash rebate check.
Bob: Sounds like a plan to me,go for it.. Happy Woodworking..

Thats the problem with these clearance sales at HD or Lowes its up to the store manager if he or she wants to participate in the sales or not so when you see on these forums of local sales your local store may or may not be one of the stores participating. bummer..

Shoot! I checked with the 2 local HD stores and they didn't have them. First Big lots, now this. What's a guy suppose to do?
I guess I'll just have to use one of my other 4 routers....LOL
Have a good one.

I work at HD and nobody told me. There were none left in my store but Friday I did a remote lookup and found one in another store. When I got there I looked on the shelf and there it was, brand new in the box. Thanks for the heads up and I told the guys and gals in hardware that if anything should go clearance to let me know.
Dave: Good thing ya have a inside connection cause IM sure there are going to bemore clearance on non~HD/Ridgid power tools in the future..

i snagged one of those 2hp PC plunger routers over the weekend. Paid the $100 price. Got the last one the store had :)
THey might be making room for rigids new hand power tool line.
The new Rigids are in stock now and selling very nicely from what I understand. I check 2 other HD's in the area yesterday and saw no other PC clearance pieces. I just have to give it time.
I had to work at it pretty hard, but I got the $100 price. My closest store, in Deerfield IL, had one marked down to $100, but it was missing standard accessories and box. So I had them check other stores for stock. Many had them, so I went to one, but found out the price wasn't marked down. The hardware manager, Gary, in the Palatine store, went to great lengths to confirm the Deerfield price and obtain a competitor price match. Voila! Now I need to figure out how to use it. I understand the basic plunge mechanism, but the various tunings are not clear. Todd
Todd: Take your time & read your owners manual.if one was not included then go to.. http://www.portercable.com You can down load a owners manual for your router from this site..

All,
Well, I went to HD the other day, and found a different deal. I got a Ridgid 13" Planer new in the box for $300. It might not be an incredibly great deal, but it is $100 off what it was a month ago. It was the last one in the store that wasn't a floor model/return.
Tom
good deal.. keep your eyes open as IM sure there will be more clearance tools on sale as they bring in new models of there Ridgid tools..

Those $100 PC Plunge Router 8529's are still showing up at HD. Walked in today to look for something else, cruised by the tool section, and there it was. The same store had not had any previously. Walked out with it, couldn't remeber what I originally went there for.
Where do you live? I called all over St. Louis and they were all out.
Thanks for the tip.
Michael
I'm in New Jersey. However, like I said, this particular HD had not had any of these routers. I had been looking ever since word got out about the clearance. Now all of a sudden they had one. Go figure. I know that the Lowes near me has several of them marked as clearance for $159. Do you have Lowes in St Louis? If so, check them out.
Here's a new wrinkle to the story. Walked into a HD in Philly and saw the Ridgid table saws on clearance. Bought the 10" Model #3612. Retail $600(approx), got it for $425. Walked into another HD in CT 2 weeks later, saw the same saw on clearance for $349. Asked the tool dept guy if he could come down...he said yes!.....got the same saw for $175!!! Needless to say, I'm returning the original one I bought for $425.
EDIT: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! SAW WONT CUT STRAIGHT. SENT IT BACK. LESSON LEARNED.
