Hi Guys and Gals
Looking for some holly for inlays and splines. I tried Rockler but they don’t seem to have any. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, ZABO

Thank you for the link! I liked the 'How too' pages also..
Check Hearne Hardwoods or Groff and Groff. They normally carry holly and are both good folks to deal with.
Thanks for the info. Does anyone have any suggestions for some other type of wood that will stay pretty white (doesn't have to be pure white) after an oil varnish finish is applied. I want to use it for splines in boxes. I have tried maple and that works ok but still isn't the look I would like. I would like it contrast more with the wood that I'm using (walnut, Brazilian cherry, catalpa, pecan and such).

Aspen is used by intarsia folks for a very light wood. I haven't used it personally, so I don't know how it reacts under a finish, but most of these intarsia pieces are finished.
If you'd like a small piece to experiment with, I can cut off a few inches from an Aspen board that's in my lumber stack and send it to you.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Will bleach work for you?Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

Yeah, bleach might work, I hadn't thought of that I might give it a try. What type of wood were thinking about bleaching? Sorry I've been saying splines when I really meant keys. Also forestgirl I might take you up on your offer of aspen.

I'm more than happy to send you some aspen -- beats you having to buy an 8' board that you may not like, and I've been done so many "good turns" by members of this forum and WWA, I like to help out where I can, keep the universe in balance. ;-)
Just click on my name and send me an email.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I wasn't talking about any particular wood to bleach.Chris @ http://www.flairwoodworks.com and http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com)

Steve Latta substitutes sycamore in his workshops.
Zabo, did you get the 2 replies I sent after receiving your email? Just want to make sure the tin cans and string are working both ways!
Yeah, the tin cans are working ok. I just replied to the last one a little while ago.
