Go for a Sorby or Crown 1/2" deep fluted bowl gouge. It will have to be reground to a thumb nail grind to get rid of the pointy ears and flat cut grind. I have two, one with a shallowish angle, the other with a steep angle. Use depends on internal shape of the bowl.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

oldww,
I have a Crown deep flute 1/2" bowl gauge, the Pro PM model. The steel, referred to as "Powdered Metal" is supposed to hold an edge longer. It does cut well, easy to regrind when needed, but can't really say the edge lasts much longer than other Crown tools.
Also have a Oneway Termite tool. It comes with two different size rings which attach to the end and are removeable for resharpening (has to be resharpened with a router). This one is good for deep bowls and goblets: it is designed to work with the tool tip projecting several inches past the tool rest, which helps if (like me) you don't have a curved tool rest able to reach inside the turning. It takes a little practise to get used to using but does a very good job, leaves a smooth surface. Haven't had to sharpen the tips yet, so don't know how that will go. Gary
