I waited for years to purchase Hitachi’s highly rated sliding miter but …… I got the new edition and have had nothing but trouble with the blade braking system. The first one was in the shop for almost a month, replaced switch, rotor, stator, and other things. Within a couple of weeks, same problem. Hitachi replaced that unit with a new one and it’s already been in the repair shop (3 weeks down time) and now it’s doing the same thing. Blade just coasts half of the time. I’ve written Hitachi a several letters and did so again today. Anyone out there have experience with this saw? Appreciate any comments.
Thanks, John

I have one I bought back in 1999 or so. I love it. Sometimes it does not brake it just coasts. But I have noticed it seems to be how I release the trigger. If I make a short cut of say 3/4" thick by 2" wide stock and release the trigger slowly it does not "brake". But if I cut the same piece again and then move my finger to the side of the trigger and allow it to "snap" off it triggers the brake.
Really I don't mind the brake not engaging a lot of the time. I always get the feeling that that "brakeing" action cannot be good for the brushes. Just my opinion.
Sad to hear that the new version is not making you happy. I just love my saw and would not trade it for any other.
Thanks for taking the time to reply, I'll try letting go of the trigger quickly like you suggested. With the coasting to a stop it's only a hassle when I'm cutting miters and want to trim a slight amount off of it. You know, when you put the blade down and push the wood against it to make a slight correction. Appreciate it, John
Yea that type of cut is when I usually try to "snap" the trigger off.
