I recently attended a router class and discovered a new joint (to me atleast). The hip joint. It seems very easy and useful. The teacher taught us 1 mating of the 2 necessary router bits…3/3 rabbet and 5/8 round over.
Here is the big question…Does anyone know the mathamatic/geometric equation to mate other sizes of bits?
This joint, the way it was done in class would be much more useful if I could size up or down.
PLEASE HELP!

Harpo-if you are not pulling legs, please post a picture or two of this subject.
I have nort heard of this one, but Marc Adams Woodworking apparently teaches it on one of their videos...is it maybe a half-lap joint in the middle of a board instead of the end..like a t on its side?
JOINERY
Illustrates the basic ways of joining wood, selecting a joint and what joints to use. The joints covered in this video include dovetails cut by hand, half-blind dovetails, how to cut and layout drawers as well as making sliding dovetails on a router table. It also includes hand cutting and machine cutting mortise and tenon joints, compound miters, and the hip joint. Marc shows you the tools of the trade, both hand and power tools, as well as tuning them up and the sharpening process. There is also a special section on adhesives.
Running time 84 minutes.
