Hello,
I’m building my dream home and I purchased a fiberglass entry door. I stained it with a Min-wax gel stain, Mohagony color. When I finished it looked very blotchy and there were some very dark spots were the gel was a little too heavy.
I tried to lighten it up a little by putting a little mineral spirits on my wiping rag……UGHHHH
still not good…. I was told to let it dry and sand the door a little with some 220 grit and stain it again……. any help greatly appreciated..
Thanks, Bob

That task will always linger with me as a nightmare project, and the fix was stupid simple. Changed stain brands. I undid everything, cleaned the door down, and tried Old Masters after being told "all the painters swear by it" - yeah ok. Well, in that case, it turned out. Way easier to deal with. Keep a little spirits and a rag nearby. Work inside out, control the brush strokes, dont mess any more than you have to, and spray the topcoat.
Night and day difference.

Thanks for the advise,
I'm not sure If I can sand a door that is fiberglass????????? Is this possible to do?
No dont sand it. If you need to get the stain off use mineral spirits. It'll come readily.Real trucks dont have sparkplugs
