Hi all-
I recently purchased several beautiful walnut boards, each over a foot wide and 8′ long. I’m trying to think of the best way to use them without making too many cuts. They’re just gorgeous and I want to show them off.
One idea I had was to glue them up and make them into a pair of 1″ thick, 3’x7′ sliding pantry doors. I want to suspend them using barn-door hanger hardware, and I was hoping it would be possible to make them into plank doors. From the research I’ve done on this website, it seems like 2″ battens on the back might work to keep them flat, but I’m not sure if the size of the project makes this a bad idea. So I’m looking for advice. Would this work? If not, what about a large frame and panel?
Thanks for reading!

hey zev,
if it were me, id opt for frame and panel construction of your doors. you may even consider a contrasting wood for the stiles and rails. frame & panel options are vast.

thanks eef. I'll look into it. The contrast is a nice idea.
zevon,
I agree about the frame and panel system for your doors ,
F & P is a much more stable then boards glued together , will stay flatter and resist warpage and movement more then solid wood will .
Now if you made panels out of the Walnut and made frames then you have a winner.

ok that's what I'll do. Thanks for the advice!
FORGET THE PANTRY! THE FRONT DOOR!
