I’m a poor college student, (lol) and I am in need of a decent jack plane. I can’t quite swing a lie-nielsen, and i was wondering if this would be a good option. Also, how much should i bid up to? Thanks : )
Theres also this one:

Nick...
If you're on a budget, and need a "go to" plane that you can count on... get this one..

By the time you buy a replacement blade / chip breaker for the bedrock, you'll be spending much the same; the Veritas comes with a lifetime no quibble warranty... Bottom line, buy cheap an pay dear...

This plane looks very good, and would be a good buy in the $100 to 125 range. I have memories of being a poor student, and so would advise checking some antique malls or flea markets for old but resrorable Stanleys. Those can aften be picked up for $10 to 20, and for 90% of uses will suffice.
