Hi,
I just got an old 15″ bench model drill press, that looks to my amateur eye like a Walker Turner. That is how it was advertised as well. At some point in its life, there was a name plate on the front, held on by three tiny rivets. It is long gone. Here is what i can tell you: it is that peculiar blue-grey-green color; there seems to have been something red painted on the front of what i would call the head–the part that covers the front pulley and belt; it’s cast iron, weighs a ton, and bears a striking resemblence to Ripley Scott’s Alien; on the blue-grey-green motor bracket thingy is DDP III; there is what looks like a serial number on the black steel motor bracket; the motor plate says it is a Leland Motor, 1 phase, 1/2 hp; it has a 1/2″ jacobs chuck.
It seems to be in good shape except that the spline that holds the motor pulley on the shaft is missing, and someone appears to have attempted to operate it anyway. As a result, the bottom of the pulley is slightly banged up, the motor shaft is slightly scraped from the three set screws, two of which are somewhat buggered by the pulley rattling around. If you take the pulley off, the motor runs quietly and smoothly.
Any idea what it is? Any suggestions for the pulley? Should i replace it altogether, or just get a new spline? Anything else i should look for on the Old Alien?
Thanks,
kevin

Ridley Scott's alien, that is. Ripley was, of course, Sigourney Weaver's character.
Try this site. You may be able to find your drill press and parts for it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went there first, looked through their postings and the wealth of information. I actually have the same message posted there as well.

I would go for a new spline. If there is room between the pulley and the axis try to wrap thin aluminum foil (preferably self adhesive) till it is filled as good as possible. Good luck with the oldy. I own a lot of old machines and after some initial care the serve me very well.
