I’m Tampa Tom, also known as Tom Iovino. As you might guess, I’m a woodworker based in the Tampa Bay area. I’ve been doing that for ten years now.
The power tools I have in my shop are:
Ridgid 3612 Table Saw
Delta 3/4 hp 14″ band saw
DeWalt Three Base router 618…
Ridgid spindle sander
Delta 12.5″ thickness planer
Now, I have a love of hand tools, and many things I do with hand planes. I wouldn’t be caught dead without my Veritas bevel-up jointer plane .. that’s a real beauty. I also collect other hand planes and love to refurbish them.
Without a doubt, my favorite projects to build are small-scale clocks, boxes, etc. But, I don’t shy away from building big cabinetry, either.
I’m looking forward to meeting each of you and expanding my knowledge…

Welcome aboard, Tom. The knots is a nice place to talk about almost anything. Hope you enjoy your stay, and don't be shy.
Just a warning......there are a few trolls roaming about, so watch where you step.

A Woodworkers mind should be the sharpest tool in the shop!
Thanks for the intro Tom,
You had me at loving the LV jointer, I couldn't live without mine.

Welcome! Please jump right in - the water's fine. Looking forward to talking to you in the future.

Welcome. No need to worry about trolls-we gotta have them. We like to see them, make them come out and expose themselves-then someone will stab them . Great fun-even the trolls like it because they keep coming back for more.
Get rid of all that powered stuff-it's either too small, too cheap, too noisy or made in China.
Kind regards.
Hey, Phil, are you a totally hand-tool shop? Dang, my hat's off to you... As a hobby guy I need the time savings! :DTom Iovino

Hi Tom,
Hell no, I was just joking about the machines....
I see RSaunders has kindly given you the links to my web sites. These days I do more plane making than woodworking-that is how the cookie crumbles here. But woodworking is much better for the sole, sorry , soul.Philip Marcou
Good one, Philip! I am seriously in the first stages of considering the possibility of building my own wooden hand plane...Any suggestions? :DTom Iovino

Welcome Tom,
I checked out your site and left a comment on your projects page. Pretty fancy site, if you ask me! Do you have just the one project there? Your polls are interesting too.
My name's Chris. I've been an avid woodworker for about 5 years and am thinking about going pro this year. I do my best to become a well-rounded woodworker. Aside from furniture making and box making, I also turn, carve, power carve, do a little pyrography (wood burning). I try to avoid building cabinets. I like the clean appearance of Arts and Crafts furniture and design and drought all my workpieces myself. Check out my website for the complete story: http://www.flairwoodwork.spaces.live.com.

Hey, Chris, thanks for the comments. Your site looks very interesting as well. Lots of luck with going pro - I know that's a huge step.So far, all I have is the one project posted. I want to put up a page of my prior projects so you have an idea of the stuff I've built. That's item #287 on my to do list today! :-DTom Iovino

James -Sounds like your shop is very well stocked.I have a confession to make - I actually live on the Pinellas side of the Bay (Largo Tom doesn't sound as poetic). One of these days, we have got to call a Tampa Bay Woodworker's meeting over at Woodcraft...Tom Iovino
