If it's "ordinary" wood (red/white oak, maple, cherry, etc.), there is a supplier in Columbus that I use. But if it's pretty much anything else, or if it's more than a couple of dozen board feet, I'll use someone that can ship it directly to me. There are some semi-local places in Ohio that I've bought from, and I've also done a fair amount of business with West Penn Hardwoods (http://www.westpennhardwoods.com/) and Hearne Hardwoods (http://www.hearnehardwoods.com/).

Steve,
Thanks for the reply and the links.
There was a place somewhere in Ohio that i ordered from a couple times 4 or 5 years ago. He was a really nice guy and I really enjoyed doing business with him. He would always send me a little something extra when I ordered from him. The first time I ordered from him was enough maple and walnut to do a chess table and he included enough spalted sycamore to do a couple of small boxes. But, alas, due to health problems, I got out of woodworking for a few years and lost contact with him. Now I don't even remember the name of his company.
Anyway, thanks for the help,Harry

Harry........ Weiss Hardwoods in Largo, FL. They let you pick out your own stock. Someone will even turn boards, forklift, etc. Somewhat pricey. In MI in the summer there are various private sources I have contact thru at a senior center woodshop.
