   sharp saws

   Absent finding a local sharpening wizzard, and assuming these are high-quality vintage saws, I'd suggest contacting Lie Nielsen to see if they would sharpen the saws for you. Once they are on the truck, do you care if the truck goes to Maine?  ;-)

   I've heard too many horor stories of poor sharpening jobs causing tracking problems, etc.

   Did not know they sharpened other saws than their own?

   I'm not sure, either, but it's worth a call to ask if you have vintage Disstons, or the like. If they are just run-of-the-mill saws, though, it might not be worth it.

   Actually own a bad axe saw.  But I think matt is like 8+ weeks out and he gets 50$ for mitre saws.  Plus shipping so it would probably run me $70 per saw.  Ouch.

   Saw Sharpening

   I'm in Saint Paul and I believe that you can take your saws to Rockler, but that turns out not to be the case.  I don't think that Eide will sharpen a hand saw, but I bet they can tell you where you can find that services.   You might also try one of Fratalone's Ace Hardware or better yet Seven Corner's Hardware.  Too bad Lake Elmo Lumber has closed.

   I noticed that the Mike Siemsen's School of Woodworking is offering a class on sharpening hand saws January 21 in Chisago City.  I've been meaning to take the class myself.   I tried once to do it myself, but was somewhat intimidated by jointing the saw first.  Maybe it's a lot simpler than it sounds.  I guess for $60 I could find out.
