I have six doors to repair and refinish. They were installed in this home in the late 30’s or 40’s. The wood, I believe is gumwood. Where can I obtain gumwood to do my repairs – – in Ontario Canada or is there an alternative wood I could use?

You may need to be a bit more specific. there are some eucalyptus which are marked as gum. However Sweetgum "liquidambar styraciflua" is marketed as Red Gum, but it is only the heart of really large trees. This is an even texture, like maple only lighter and softer. The color can be medium brown with some very interesting dark streaks not related to annual rings.
Are you looking for veneer or solid lumber?

It is unlikely you will be able to find Red Gum in thicknesses over 4/4 unless you find a sawmill that will saw it to order. If you do find it at 8/4 or over please let me know via a post in this thread.
red gum is available at oliver lumber in toronto and knight lumber in guelph for sure, and probably at exotic hardwoods in burlington, but their price will probably be three times what oliver will charge.
Thanks for that lead, mytulpa!
