I am still looking for a sander and now I have come across the Grizzly G1079 16″ drum sander priced at $750.00 which is in my price range, and I would like to hear comments from anyone owning one or having used one. My only experience with Grizzly is through a friend who bought a Grizzly band saw and 6″ jointer, both were so poor quality that he sent them back. That was about 8 years ago and he hasn’t bought any Grizzly tools since then. If this sander is anything like his band saw and jointer it is a piece of @#@@@#. Basically he got what he paid for. Has their quality improved or are they still the low end supplier. If my friend was still alive I am sure he would be telling me not to even consider this purchase.

I own the Grizzly 6" Jointer, Drill Press and 3HP left tilt Cab saw. I would rank their quality as very good for the Home wodworking entusisast. I am quite pleased with my purchases. Feel good about buying Griz.
Good Luck

I own a Grizzly Hollow Chisel Mortiser and their 8" joiner. Basically you can look upon Grizzly as subcontracting out the QA to the customer. Sometimes you get poor quality, but they are happy to send replacement parts if needed. That's why thier stuff is cheaper.
There is a guy that posts regularly over on The Oak that has it and likes it. His name is C J Hebert. He has his own website and talks about it quite a bit. http://www.cjohnhebert.com/drum%20sander.htm I have come across other people online that have been less complimentary of it. I have never touched one in person and though I own two pieces of Griz equipment ( shaper and belt/disc sander) I would say that you have to judge each machine on its own merits. A machine that large and complicated is not something I would buy without some serious research.

I dont know where you live, but I came across a classified on sawmillcreek.org for a 24" sander for 500. http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=12621 The seller is the founder of that website, Kieth. If you cant make it to VA at least here is one more person to talk to about the Grizzly belt sanders.
Where I work they bought a Grizzly osoleting edge sander with the Drum sander attachment not sure Model # I like it -
Also bought their Bandsaws to replace a 16in. Delta. Its a bigger band saw bigger motor and a big PILE OF JUNK just big heavy and green. The tracking adjustment is bad will not stay locked - the guides are a joke - the upper bar the guide mounts on can be move a good 3/8 in. forwards and backwards very sloppy, the cast table is not flat .
I haven't use a lot of Grizzly stuff but the Sander seams decent stay away from their band saws , Last year was thinking about buying their band saw, after seeing the new one at work I am glad I spent the extra money on the Delta.
They also bought their big 4 bag dust collector it really " sucks" poor design. Hey but sounds like a jet taking off and fills the air with super fine dust. Its going bye bye.
You get what you pay for , might be a good idea to look at one before buying or go with a brand you trust .
I have been happy with Delta even their newer stuff.
