Is it the economic pull of FWW or just production snags?
After an extensive period of mulling over and hand-wringing (“Go ahead,” my infinitely patient wife says. “Buy the damn saw.”), last last night I ordered my first-ever bandsaw, the Grizzly G0457. Naturally, I’ve been able to think of little else since—should I have bought a bigger saw for just a little more money? a smaller one for $150 less? Then an e-mail from Grizzly showed up in my inbox this afternoon. The G0457 is out of stock and another shipment is expected to arrive on … February 22!
Maybe it was FWW’s recent Best Value rating, or maybe Grizzly is just having problems keeping up with demand generally. Anyway, my gratification will now be delayed (as will the significant withdrawal from my debit account). In the meantime, I can plan the new workshop that my new saw will call home, stock up on Timberwolf blades, and read all I can find about bandsaws. Any advice for a bandsaw newbie? Which of those Timberwolfs, for example, are must-buys?

It would indeed be a tragedy if the history of the human race proved to be nothing more than the story of an ape playing with a box of matches on a petrol dump. ~David Ormsby Gore
Grizzly often gets pretty far behind this time of the year. My guess is that one of the ways they keep their prices down is to keep their "back inventory" (not sure that's a real term) pretty low, which catches up with them when summer's over and everyone goes back to the shop, and Christmas rolls around.
That's a head's up to anyone thinking about a Grizzly machine. Don't assume it's going to be in stock once you make up your mind!
Well you've convinced me to wait. I too am ready to buy that 457 - I was torn between that or the Rikon 10-325. But they gave it such a bland review that I had to go check one out myself. And I'll admit - after looking at it - I'd go with the Grizzly. Just as the article stated - the bearing guides looked over engineered and tricky. Plus I drove over an hour to see it and the floor model was damaged - so much so that they wanted to sell it at cost. I did think about it - but I like my machinery to be un-dropped from a truck.
You'll have to tell me what you think of it after you get one. I'd like to know if the 2hp resaws as nicely as they clam.
And for a good selection of bandsaw blades - go to http://www.Lagunatools.com - I noticed there bandsaw blades are well priced compared to the Timberworlf. And since they make great bandsaws ( I got to use one years ago - very nice ) - there blades should be really good.

Brian, the customer service guy at Grizzly said they'd be filling out the back orders first when they get more saws in Feb. You might want to get in the queue now, as they obviously don't charge you anything until they ship.I debated between this Grizzly and the G0555X, and figured for an extra $150 the extra horsepower would be worth it over the life of the machine. Thanks for the tip about Laguna Tools as well. Why not the Griz 0513 X 17" with 2 HP which I just noticed is on sale for $850... ?
Sarge..
Sarge, it's the 0513X that's on sale for $850, and that's a great deal and a beefier saw. I may indeed reconsider, but first I have to figure out if I can fit into my tiny workshop . . .Norman
Oh, well. I called Grizzly about the deal on the 0513X and was told they were all gone and the model has been discontinued. No mas. Thus the great price . . .Norman

Afternoon Norm...
You must be related to me... when it appears to be a fast ball down the middle, it turns to a "sinker" as the bat starts forward. ha.. ha...
Good luck with the quest...

I bought the G0457 about 2 months ago and I love it. I re-sawed some 7" QWO with no problem. Keep in mind I have never used a bandsaw before this purchase. The fence that comes as standard equipment is great. What sold me on the saw was FWW review a few issues ago. Everything they said is right on about the saw. If you wait you will not be sorry. Regards!
