I am looking at the Grizzly 17″ 2 hp with electric break that stops the blade in 3 seconds, i like that feature or the 19″ 3 hp with foot break. The difference is $151.00, what do you think?

The automatic function is nice to have but I like the simplicity of a mechanical brake. I know that will be easy to fix, and won't require hard to locate custom electrical components, if it starts to malfunction. I always look at machines from the point of view of long turn maintenance, good woodworking machines can serve for a century or more.

Thanks John, Have you tested the Grizzly 19" bandsaw? Do you have any idea why they make odd size 17" & 19" ?
FWW did a test of larger band saws a few years ago, I'm sure there was a Grizzly included, you should be able to find it in the back issues or here on line. Because band saw blades can easily be made to any length from coils of blade stock, there is no standard size band saw like there is in tablesaws.John W.
19" 3 hp with foot break the difference is $151.00. What do think?
FOOT BREAK >> Pay the extra! My Rikon takes about 5 minutes to stop rolling them wheels!
Now if my TS had a electronic or foot break!
Hi Woodenhead:
I have the 17" Grizzly without the motor brake or a foot brake. I really don't see the need. The saw stops within 15 seconds and there is always something to do so the time isn't wasted. BTW which ever saw you decide on, be sure to get the Grizzly re-saw fence, it is wonderful.
Be Safe,
Dennis
Thanks Dennis2, think it comes with the 19"
Hi woodenhead
I am at work right now putting in some extra hrs so I can buy the Grizzly 19in bandsaw. I was also wondering if I should get the foot break or motor break. John makes a great point on keeping it simple so if it does break its easier to fix. Hopfully I'll have enough saved up to order it in a couple of weeks. let me know what you decide and how it works if you get it before then.
Auto
Will do, and yes John makes a strong case about the brake.
