Grizzly 1023slx and SF base question
Well, I’ve cut my last piece of wood on the Shopsmith. It did it’s job, but I’m moving up. I ordered my 1023slx and it arrives today. After seeing firsthand, the quality of my Grizzly 17″ BS, I have decided to give the TS a try. I ordered the sf base and extension kit for the table so I can move it around. I have a two car garage and space is important. Does anybody here use mobile bases on table saws? I have the sf base on my BS and it is pretty solid and I can move it pretty easily. I would hate to put the thing together and find out it effects performance by not being solidly on the floor. It’s like Christmas in August!!

bone, I have the 1023 and the sf base also. It locks down when you are using it to provide stable work. The saw its self is heavy so it does not take too much to lock it down. But on some boards that are very long, I have to move my ts to get the wood sawed. I think you will be happy with your purchase. Mine is over 3 years old now and never a problem.
Happy cutting!
Bones,
I'll second what Walnutburl said...my 1023 has a shop fox base too...but it is so heavy I never secure it to the floor. Also, I used the top of the shop fox feet to run supports up for a drop down outfeed table that has just been a terriffic addition in my tiny shop.
Bones-
I have the shop fox 1677- basically the same machine as the griz with the long rails and mobile base. I lock the base down on my floor as some of the weight I work with will move the machine a little, and I think that it also cuts down on vibration. I built an outfeed table that folds down, and a platform under the right wing with drawer units to hold accy's and blades for the saw as well as my compressor. Enjoy.

Alas it is not to be today! I just came back in and the shipment was refused. It was damaged. The driver even said he did not blame me for not taking it. My next call is to Grizzly CS. There goes the week-end.
Jeez Louise! What a mess! Glad you didn't accept it.
I realllllllly can't understand what possesses people to treat packages that way! Can they possibly be under that much time pressure? It's gotta cost the shippers money in the long run, wouldn'tcha think?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Yea, I know what you mean. I was hoping that it was only box damage, but when I looked inside and saw the dust cover cracked and the paint scraped off the motor housing, I decided that who knows what jolt that package took. The palate was in bad shape as well. Grizzly was very nice about it. I called and sent an E-mail with pic's. They opened an event as they called it and said someone would call me within the hour. Sure enough, in about 15 minutes CS called apologized and said I would get a call on Monday with new ship information. Lesson to those out there that use mail order, thoroughly examine packages and even if you want it real bad, it's worth the trouble to get one that's in good shape.
I've forgotten, bones, what part of the country are you in? Which Grizzly plant did the saw ship from?forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
I am located in Roanoke Virginia. It's in the western part of the state. I don't know exactly where it came from, but assume it would have been from PA. Where ever it came from, it had a hard trip. It wasn't just the big box either. There were 5 boxes in total, and the rail box was pretty banged up as well. I guess this kind of thing happens. Every body has been nice about it. Grizzly CS was prompt and indicated another call with ship info on Monday. So I figure it will be Thursday for delivery.
Bones,
Bad luck with your disappointing delivery. I'm in CA and almost everything I have comes from Grizz in Washington, simply because of price and service. No problems so far.
Stayed in Roanoke on business once, long time ago, big hotel some miles from the airport. Can't remember the name but the manager took me on a facility tour and al the walls, just about everything, was covered in woodwork. Very, very nice. At the time I was living abroad and thought Roanoke was the nicest place I visited in the US, amongst many others.

The name of the hotel is Hotel Roanoke. It is a very grand old place from the late 1800's. Belive it or not, the place was boarded up and falling down, when the city and VA Tech got together and financed it's renovation, and made it a convention center. Now it's the pride of the city and is always sold out. Not cheap to stay there, but worth it. The woodwork is unbelievable and it is believed to be haunted. Great story even if you don't belive in Haints!!
