Can someone give me a name of a readily available, uncomplicated, easy to apply, ready-mixed grain filler for quartersawn white oak? Also, when you fill grain on one side of a glued-up panel, should you also apply it on the underside to avoid uneven drying/expansion/contraction, hence, warping? Final finish is tung oil.

Wil,
My two favorite pore fillers are Star Products (oil-based), and Enduro (water-born).
As long as you apply finish to both sides, filling the pores on the underside isn't necessary.
Good luck,

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. I've called around for Enduro products but no one seems to know of it. Are there any chain stores, paint stores or hardware, that carry it?
Wil
Wil,
I second the Enduro recommendation. I've tried many fillers, water-base and oil-base, and IMHO, the Enduro is a stand-out. Nothing comes close. It's easy to apply, sands back beautifully, and DOES NOT shrink. It tints very nicely too.
I highly recommend it. Go to compliant systems website, it's a phone order only.
(No, i'm not on their payroll.) :)

As Joe mentioned in his reply, it's a product you'll have to order:

I got some Enduro grain filler and am ready to try it. What I have is an round oak table top. The edges are rounded over - should I use the filler on the edges? ALso on the end grain edges?
Wil,
Use pore filler anywhere you want a smooth surface - the pores are most prominent in end grain.
Unlike other pore fillers you apply and wipe away the excess with burlap, follow the instructions for the Enduro product, as burlap will pull the pore filler out of the pores.
Let us know how your project turns out - post pictures!
