I disasmbled 8 wine tanks today. 8/4 oak approx 400 bf per tank. the winery I working for would like to sell the wood. Tank size is/was 6 feet in dia by 8 feet tall. 4″ to 7″ wide pieces. Approx 35 years old The wood is located in the Napa Valley, Calif. Any intrest out there? How much is it worth? I would like to buy some but not all.

Is it a notable winery ?? Here is an opportunity to construct some wine tasting tables or wine racks of "taste". Worth? Could be turned into a small fortune in the land of Movie Stars.

Since it's been holding wine for years the wood will always smell like wine. You can make some nice wine racks and such but depending on what you make with it, the smell could be a benefit or a negative. For example, no one would want a baby crib that smells like wine. Worth? Whatever reclaimed oak is worth given the marketabilty of the smell. good luck
Thanks to you and Bruce for your replys. Your are right about the wine smell but in times it settles down. These cask were white wine. I did make some small boxes out of red wine barrel heads [the flat ends]. I made them inside out with the purple stain on the out side with a locking miter joint and a rabbit lid. turn out pretty great. With a contractor friend, we're going to pick up the wood. I, looking [in my mine] 6' dia table tops.
