Hi,
I’m having trouble locating Ash, hickory or pecan ply wood that has 2 good sides. 1/2″ thick.
What I want is Ash both sides instead of the ash / luan I’m finding. I really don’t want to glue up 1/4″ panels.
I want to make some semi budget frame and panel cabinet doors and use 1/2″ ply wood as above for the panels.
I’m in So.Cal and when I last looked at the better places it was no dice.
Did I miss something? Is it even made?
Thanks,
10saw

Hi 10saw ,
The species you are looking for , to my knowledge are simply not commonly available in 1/2" , not to say they are not made , but so little demand for 1/2" would certainly limit production with the exception of having them custom laid up for you .
The larger thought I would ask you is why use 1/2" panels for frame and panel doors ?
If your talking about cabinet doors most recessed panel cabinet doors are made with 1/4" or even 5.2mm panels in which the species you want are readily available in .
good luck dusty
D'oh....No posting while on Nyquil!!!Yep I meant 1/4" panels..... but the same problem arises so far.I just want to be able to open the cabinets and see the same species inside as out if not the same grade the same color...Thanks,10saw
10saw,
Not sure where your looking but , any hardwood suppliers , places cabinet shops buy from , maybe not always found at the big box .
typically what I use for recessed panels will be the same species but perhaps not Rift sawn or Plain sliced on both sides but , still the same specie but a different grain and pattern .One side will be face and may look more uniform . When the job is done the insides of the doors will be fine .
