I am carving an address into a mahogany door that I am building and would like to gold leaf the numbers. I have not done any of this, I would like to see articles on tech. and possibly find a source for materials needed.. Thanks Bob

I've never ordered from them, but they seem to have everything you'll need......Sepp Leaf Products (seppleaf.com). Their catalog is first rate.
Seppleaf sells the real deal. Big money for their products. Just a suggestion, but try a craft store first for some copper or aluminum leaf to get the hang of it. Big difference between $10 and $400.

I inherited some gold leaf materials from the man who sold me his shop. There is stuff I reall dont know how to use. Is there a good book to read on this?
thanks
Frank
There are a lot of books on gold leaf and gilding. The basics are pretty standard, so one book will serve as well as another. Amazon or Barnes and Noble should meet your requirements. There are also some highly specialized books on the subject also if you should ever specialize in 14th century eclesastical gilding for example. It's great to play with and get the hang of if you've never done it before. I use the copper often over carvings.
