Can anyone offer any tips/experience regarding the use of Trex bender-board (“one by”) lumber in glued/bent/laminated outdoor structures? I’m intending to construct a freeform grape arbor out of the mentioned material. Is there a recommended glue for this material in an outdoor situation. I haven’t found any such information @ the Trex site. If glue will not be dependable over a looong period, perhaps I should consider using short stainless square drive screws to “lock” the laminations together?

I've never done it but I would bet that construction glue would work and to make it last forever, you might try pop rivets. Sounds kind of hokey but it just might be the ticket.

I bet Liquid Nails 'construction' version will work.
Thanks guys for the thoughts you provided. I'll try a couple of glue joints this afternoon. Construction adhesive and Gorilla Glue are on my list - though I'd have to say, construction adhesive is my front runner prior to testing. And the pop rivet idea isn't bad at all! Thanks again!
how about you do us a favor, go buy one of those new hot melt polyurethane glue guns they have advertised. Test those suckers out and come back and give us a run down. Ive seen great reviews on natural wood, but nothing on the new synthetics like trex or even MDF. :-)
Trex Decking and Railing is a wood and plastic composite lumber product, made primarily from equal parts of reclaimed hardwood sawdust and reclaimed/recycled polyethylene plastic. The plastic is primarily from recycled grocery bags and stretch film. The website http://www.trex.com has a section for professionals/architects and there you will find the architects binder. It has all of the specifications for the material. I didn't find anything about gluing it but because of the nature of the material it almost sounds like the Gorilla glue would be the best choice. Just remember, a little goes a long way and be sure to wet one side of the glue joint. Moisture activates this stuff and it doesnt sound like you'll have much of that. It only absorbs 1.7% when submerged for 24 hours.

I have used Gorilla glue on trex . I made box posts to cover up four by four treated posts . I made them out of 1 by 6 trex . I didn't think to dampen one edge, but have held up for two years in Minnesota( no nails).
The folks in the Fine Homebuilding forum could answer this question very well. There are a number of excellent deck builders who spend time over there.
