I decided that my grand-daughter neede a (small) treasure chest make from cocobolo. I can’t seem to get the glue to hold. Gorilla glue might due it, but I would like the expended open time of Titebond poly glue. Applied according to directions… dampen wood, spay some water on the applied glue and clamp f a couple of hours. Where am I going wrong!
Thanks!

I believe cocobola requires wiping over the surface to be glued w/ acetone to remove natural oils. Cedar is another one. regular white glues should work after that.
Thanks!
As said, cocobolo contains an oil that interferes with many adhesives. Wiping with acetone or lacquer thinner just before bonding can be a help.
BTW, there is little difference between poly adhesives. Gorilla Glue is a poly glue little different from other manufacturer's poly glues.
Titebond II, contrary to many opinions otherwise, can bond satisfactorily to cocobolo. Make the joint from freshly cut or surfaced wood and clamp normally.
