Does anyone have a sure-fire way to glue a 1″ wide edgeband to 3/4″ MDF? I remember reading something about thinning Titebond 1 to 1 with water to make a sealer, brush it on the MDF, let dry, then glue on the wood as usual.

I'd just Titebond the wood to the MDF directly. You might want to use a schosh more glue than usual; MDF will soak it up a little more than lumber does.
Attempting to seal the MDF with Titebond first strikes me as a bad idea. PVA does not bond very well to itself.
It's no big deal. I made a router table top 1.5 thick (2 3/4" pieces glued) Edge banded with oak. I used biscuits and used regular tight bond It's held for several years now with no sign of any issues. It is topped with formica
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
I agree! Mine is just WAX.
Just use the Titebond straight from the bottle.
